After the antique, with brass label: MINISTRY OF CULTURE AND SCIENCES, ARCHAEOLOGICAL RECEIPTS FUND, 3485 INV. NO. DELPHI MUSEUM / THE HEAD OF THE CHARIOTEER OF DELPHI. THE BRONZE STATUE WAS STANDING ON A FOUR HORSE CHARIOT IN FULL SIZE, OFFERING OF POLYZALOS, THE TYRANT OF GELA (SICILY), AFTER HIS VICTORY IN A CHARIOT-RACE. FOUND NEAR THE TEMPLE OF APOLLO. ORIGINAL WORK OF A GREAT ARTIST OF THE FIRST HALF OF THE 5TH CENTURY B.C.; brass label on reverse: PRESENTED TO GENERAL COLIN L.
